2021 – Recovering from an earthquake in Japan

On March 11th, the anniversary of ten years since the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, school lunch is a menu to support the recovery of the Tohoku region. It consists of senbei soup (local dish of Aomori), fried fish cake with sesame seeds (Miyagi), and furikake (sprinkled with bonito).

This is Anthony, who stepped up to be an assistant at St Ann’s, a school in England, when Covid left them short staffed. Alongside the mains at Lampton School, there are vegetable sides, thanks to Chefs in Schools. Today it’s a rainbow carrot, kale, tahini and herb salad. Eileen cooks the carrots first, then mixes the sauce through and adds in the kale.
