2016 Blog – Are you ready for #ISMD2016?

I can’t quite believe that it’s almost the fourth International School Meals Day. March 3rd sees us celebrate this year’s theme promoting ‘Fresh Local and Healthy’ School Food. The diversity of school meal programmes around the world can be seen daily in the media and with the Global Goals http://www.globalgoals.org still in the minds of many governments, the sustainability of food, education, tackling hunger and more makes School food a central part of delivering on those goals and the next generation’s wellbeing.

Those of us involved in volunteering each year for ISMD are amazed by the pictures stories shared by schools and communities and we hope that 2016 will be the best year yet.

The provision of good food to our children and young people is paramount to them being able to attend, achieve and attain at school and with the ‘Fresh Local and Healthy’ theme comes the opportunity for pupils and students to tell us about the origins of the food in their school lunch or indeed what they have been growing in their school gardens. I will be supporting this year’s #ISMD2016 thunderclap on twitter and you can join me (Click here to get involved).

Of course, while the day itself is an opportunity to celebrate, we know that school meals are served all year round so don’t forget you can send in your pictures and stories anytime.

Wishing you all a successful ISMD 2016!
